Home > Chesed (Kindness)

Throughout the year, JFCS’s Chesed Committee supports our clients with both necessities and niceties as an extra layer of support. This year, the focus of the committee is on providing Thanksgiving meals to clients and our annual Adopt-A-Family holiday gift drive.

Thanksgiving Meals

JFCS’s Chesed Committee matches donors who wish to provide a hot Thanksgiving dinner to clients who may not have another opportunity to celebrate. The meals, purchased from local restaurant Hof’s Hut, are sponsored by generous donations from our community. Each meal is $30.00 and the committee will provide 70 meals in 2025.

Adopt-A-Family

The holidays can be hard for low-income families and JFCS is here to help! Clients who need a hand up during the holiday season are asked to provide a wish list of items that they might otherwise not be able to afford. The Chesed Committee then matches donors willing to provide these gifts with the wishlists of clients. The donors shop for and donate the items, making it a holiday to remember for all involved.

JFCS provides each family with a $50 gas or grocery store gift card to help a little more. If you would like to provide these to the family, please make a gift HERE and indicate Chesed.

If you would like to Adopt-A-Family and make their holiday special, please contact Tamar Brandeis at tbrandeis@jfcslboc.org by Friday, November 21 in order to maximize Black Friday sales. Adopters will be accepted on a case-by-case basis after November 21 or until all participating families have been adopted.
