As a Welcome or Care Team volunteer, you may assist with:

  • Enrolling children in public school
  • Supporting job searches, résumé building, and employment preparation (in collaboration with Case Managers)
  • Helping individuals study for the written driving exam, locate driver’s education resources, and navigate DMV processes (JFCS may assist with the cost of formal driving lessons)
  • Enrolling adults in ESL classes
  • Tutoring and other educational support

We’re proud to share that the JFCS Welcome Team program has been actively supporting refugee families since September 2024. We are now continuing this vital work through JFCS Welcome Team and Care Teams. Thanks to the dedication of our incredible volunteers, this initiative continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of newcomer families.

Want to Get Involved?

We’re always looking for compassionate volunteers to join our Welcome and Care Teams. If you’re interested in learning more, please email ksiegel@jfcslboc.org or fill out this form:

Who Will You Be Partnered With?

We continue to support many families in need, including individuals from Afghanistan, Syria, Africa, South and Central America, and other regions. Each family has its own unique story, strengths, and journey. Your involvement provides stability, connection, and a meaningful pathway toward independence.

What’s the Difference Between Welcome Teams and Support Teams?

Welcome Teams consist of at least five volunteers who commit to supporting an individual or family for six to twelve months (with the option to extend). Volunteers work closely with JFCS staff and share responsibilities related to case management, ensuring newcomers receive critical support as they integrate into the community.

Care Teams

Care Teams offer less-intensive support after the initial resettlement period. They focus on friendship, encouragement, and community integration less than hands-on resettlement tasks.
